currently TTC and curious if anyone used their regular ob and a midwife? I was hoping a midwife you be an extra resource and my voice in trying to keep things as natural as possible. Thoughts ?

@laurenshan

Hey Laur!  For me, both pregnancies, I used a doula and my OB.  I didn't feel quite comfortable just having a midwife but I know many many women would strongly disagree with that.  So I think it really all depends on the person. I'm sure some other Mama's will chime in here!

Hi @laurenshan! I went to a practice that had midwives and OBs. With my first, I started with the midwives and loved them but unfortunately had pre-term contractions and a breech baby so I was transfered to the OBs. While I was disappointed at first, it was a great experience. If you decide to go the midwife route, I would recommend finding a practice with both so you still have access to either just in case.

Hi @laurenshan! I absolutely love my midwife. I agree with the other mamas that it’s important to have access to an OB should anything go wrong, but if you’re looking for natural or unmedicated, I found a midwife to be the perfect choice. She completely supported me in my decision to have an unmedicated birth, and I found her to be the perfect coach throughout my  labor and beyond (she even helped me learn to breastfeed). I’m working with her again for baby #2!
